Young Offenders Stars Campaign For A "Billy Murphy" Spin-Off
Actors Shane Casey & Dominic McHale also hint at a second movie
The Young Offenders has introduced us to some amazing characters since it first aired in 2018, and two of our faves are Sergeant Healy (Dominic McHale) and Billy Murphy (Shane Casey).
With season two getting into full flow, The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show welcomed both men into our Cork studio for a chat about the rebel-tastic series.
The lads have been friends for years and are like two naughty school kids trying to get one over on each other.
Dominic puts his buddy on the spot with this probing question, "Now Shane, can you confirm or deny that there is gonna be a spin-off series based on the life of Billy Murphy?" - which spawns some ideas that fans will love.
And with season three getting the green light recently, they've high hopes for The Young Offenders Movie 2.
When asked why the show has become such an institution, Dominic feels it's the realness;
sometimes you watch a show and the characters are presented as a bit like black or white, they're either a good guy or a bad guy, whereas in The Young Offenders it's like they all have certain things going for them, ya can see what they're trying to do but they're all flawed
Shane also learns the identity of a young fan he met whilst on holidays in the Canaries, thanks to a random message from his aunt. The power of radio eh!?
Catch The Young Offenders every Monday night @9:30 on RTE 2.
