Why The Lord Of This Castle Is Letting Nature Take Over

Randal Plunkett is a lot of things, he's a vegan, he's a fan of heavy metal, he's a film maker and he's also the 21st Baron of Dunsany. [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/08/27113042/RandalPlunkett_2708.mp3"][/audio] As the holder of one of the oldest surviving Irish titles, Randal is also the owner of Dunsany Castle and Demesne in Meath. The 1600 acre site dates back to the 10th century and includes the castle, a church and a lot of land. While traditionally, farms have filled the land, Randal has spent the last seven years doing something completely different. He has established Dunsany Nature Reserve which has seen him 'rewild' around 750 acres of the estate to nature. This means no livestock, no planting, sowing or weeding.     View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Dunsany Nature Reserve (@dunsanynaturereserve) Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Randal explained what inspired them to begin rewilding and shared some of the incredible animals he has encountered on the grounds. You can catch the chat by clicking play above and you can watch the trailer to Randal's movie The Green Sea below.
