Why are parking fines more prevalent then ever?

Parking inspectors have been out in force since the lifting of lockdown restrictions, and new figures today have revealed that local authorities dished out more than 278,000 parking tickets in the last 14 months, an increase of more than 100,000 on the previous period. One of the more affected counties was Galway, where 21,000 tickets have been administered since last March, ranking it third highest in the country overall and among the highest in Ireland per-capita. So why are parking tickets more prevalent than ever?
