Over the last couple of days this week there have been an alarming number of covid cases even though the impact has not yet been fully felt on our hospitals.
On Friday alone, there were almost 15,000 covid tests conducted at the HSE's community testing facilities. Wicklow, Galway and Dublin were the busiest testing sites this past weekend.
O'Beirne said that at surge capacity that Ireland should be able to do about 30,000 PCR tests a day. She also said that in the coming weeks that depending on the demand, the HSE will look at utilising Antigen testing.
