The Hard Shoulder Highlights

"Unless you look after the basic, you are going nowhere..."

An interesting statistic caught Ivan's eye recently. It’s to do with public toilets, because in Britain, the Royal Society for Public Health found that the number of public toilets maintained by councils has dropped from 5,159 in 2010, to 4,486 in 2018. That’s a significant drop in a short space of time. Meanwhile here in Ireland, we have seen regular controversies around the country as local public toilets are shut down. In fact last year Dublin City council gave funding for the first planned public toilets in the capital in over 20 years. Someone who has long felt strongly about this is friend of the show Alice Leahy, of the Alice Leahy Trust. She reckons we would have a lot more problems in the health service if we couldn't pee or poo, and she joined Ivan on this evening's edition of the Hard Shoulder to tell him why.
