Yesterday, US President Donald Trump visited the state of Ohio and the state of Texas, the scenes of two gun massacres over the weekend in the cities of Dayton and El Paso, respectively. It came amid criticism of his handling of the shootings which left 31 people dead over the weekend. He consoled victims, but he also faced protesters demanding gun control and denouncing what they say is his extremist rhetoric on race and immigration. He maintained, however, that he was a unifying President. So to get an assessment of how Trump’s trip was received, we are joined now by Matt Mayer, the President of Opportunity Ohio, and a former senior official in the US department of homeland security.
