Do trees in urban areas need to be cut to stop compensation claims?

Owen Keegan, the chief executive of Dublij City Council has said that he would like to cut down every roadside tree in the city. He says it would stop people who trip over their roots from suing the authority. Dublin is home to some 60,000 trees alongside its streets and roads, with an average of 5,000 planted by the council every year. Stuart Gilhooly is solicitor and former President of the Law Society, and said that paths need to be maintained or there will of course be claims for falls that cause injuries. Gerald Mills is Associate Professor in Geography at UCD, and told Ivan why trees are so important to urban areas.
