First up, laptop or tablet?
The spec sheets online and in-store can often be overwhelming – what matters when considering what device to buy?
In terms of add-ons or accessories, is anything essential?
Any tips for ensuring the device is kid or teen-proof?
Considerations:
Budget
Function
Portability
Spec sheet:
Screen-size
RAM / memory
Operating system
Processor – not as important for schoolwork etc
Storage – not as big a consideration as it once was because of cloud storage
Accessories
The only vital thing I would recommend is an external mouse
Perhaps consider a monitor – if you’re worried about back pain and posture!
Child-proof
Adults should set the device up first as an Admin and then create a profile for the child or teenager. That means they cannot download things without admin approval
Where possible, keep the device in a public part of the house, don’t let it disappear into bedrooms etc
