The Number Of Domestic Violence Cases Sent Forward For Trial Nearly Doubled Last Year

According to new figures obtained by Newstalk  the number of domestic violence cases sent forward for trial nearly doubled last year. The Department of Public Prosecutions referred 495 files for prosecution in 2020 -compared to 249 the year before. The number of files the DPP received from the Gardaí relating to domestic violence increased by 88 per cent in 2020.   To discuss further we were joined on the show by Caitriona O’Neill, domestic violence social worker with Cork’s Cuanlee refuge for women and children.
