The Human & Environmental Cost of the Fast Fashion Industry & A History of Civilization in Twelve Clocks
This week on Taking Stock with Mandy Johnston:
Spring forward, fall back - twice a year we look to take control over father time but do we think enough about what it all means? David Rooney, former curator of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and author of 'About Time: A History of Civilization in Twelve Clocks' joined Mandy to discuss the social, cultural, and political impact the creation of clocks had on the formation of modern civilisation.
Nasreen Sheikh, the founder of 'Empowerment Collective', joined Mandy to discuss her journey from modern-day slavery to entrepreneur and international advocate for the empowerment of women in the textile and fashion industry as well as Alacoque McAlpine, Lecturer in the College of Business at Technological University Dublin to outline the changes in the fashion industry in the last 20 years, the rise in consumption, pressure caused by the large retailers, and how that impacts on workers' lives.
