Taking Stock Podcast: Irish Economy 10 Year Retrospective, The Race for Quantum Computing Supremacy & China/USA Technological Cold War

Economist Colm McCarthy joins Vincent in studio to take a look back on the Irish economy over the last 10 years. Together they discuss the beginning of the decade under the cloud of austerity and recession, the role of international investment, the broadening of the Irish tax base, and what we might expect in the decade to come. Vincent speaks to Dr Stefano Sanvito, Professor of Condensed Matter Theory, and Director of CRANN at the School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin about the burgeoning area of quantum computing, what it might lead to for tech giants such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and IBM in the race for quantum supremacy, and how best Irish third level institutions and industries can prepare for the quantum world. Tech journalist, Jonathan Keane joins Vincent to discuss the escalating trade cold war between the USA and China, and what the implications might be for us here in Europe.
