Should the nurses be compensated?

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation addressed the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health about the protections in place for frontline healthcare workers. They told the committee that frontline healthcare workers should receive some compensation for their work during the pandemic. Healthcare workers in Northern Ireland and Scotland are set to receive a £500 payment in recognition for their work during the pandemic. One of those speaking at the committee was the INMO’s Director of Industrial Relations, Tony Fitzpatrick, and he joined Kieran on Tuesday's edition of The Hard Shoulder to tell him why the INMO feel nurses deserve more than a 'clap'. Meanwhile John Wall, who is a patient advocate also joined Kieran, as the Government is to significantly expand access to medical cards for people who, like himself, have terminal illnesses. The government today expanded the eligibility criteria, which will see cards available to all those who are terminally ill and have a prognosis of up to 24 months.
