Should killing nature be a crime?

Could ecocide laws bring an end to the destruction of the environment. Many environmental campaigners have been pushing for legislation on the issue.  And in fact, in December 2019, at the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Vanuatu’s ambassador to the European Union made the suggestion to make the destruction of the environment a crime. So what would that legislation look like?  Is it even enforceable? Cara Augustenborg is an Environmental Scientist, and climate change lecturer at UCD.  Rachel Killean is a  senior lecturer in law at Queen’s University Belfast. They joined Kieran on Monday's edition of The Hard Shoulder to discuss whether we could see legislation soon.
