Saoirse Ronan Chats Little Women, Oscars & Why Her Dog Is Named After A Famous Irish TV Character

Could her role as the fiery Jo March get her that elusive statuette? Saoirse may only be 25-years-old, but she has already established herself as a member of Hollywood royalty. In her latest project, the Dubliner plays the spicy Jo March in Greta Gerwig's adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's 19th century masterpiece, Little Women. Described as "The best film of the year" by the Wall Street Journal, the rave reviews are flooding in: What a surprise to watch a film about a beloved book come alive in such a wholly original, modern way! Loved loved loved @LittleWomen ❤️? So refreshing to see something so romantic and beautiful in theaters... a real Holiday movie! ? pic.twitter.com/opX5yPun5h — Reese Witherspoon (@ReeseW) December 16, 2019 The movie follows the lives of the four March sisters - Amy (Florence Pugh), Jo (Saoirse), Beth (Eliza Scanlen) and Meg (Emma Watson) as they come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War. Timothée Chalamet plays Saoirse's love interest Theodore "Laurie" Laurence. The A-list remake features swoon-worthy performances mixed with modern attitudes: Speaking on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, Ronan praises director Greta's artistic direction by saying; "she just lets it all be really kinda gorgeous in a very authentic way". She continues by explaining why its universal theme is still so relevant today; "and that's what the movie kinda focuses on with all the girls, is them going, "I do have something to say" and "I do have something to offer" and "How do I kinda find my way in the world with this?" ". Having already been nominated for a Golden Globe (Actress in a Drama Motion Picture) for her role as Jo, Iano asks the star if she's hoping of an Oscar, but she's feeling no pressure when saying; "the more it feels like less of a competition and more of a community, the better" And if you're a fan of Love/Hate, you're gonna love the story behind why she named her dog "Fran". Little Women hits Irish cinema screens on St Stephen's Day - so check it out. Catch Saoirse's chat in full by pressing the play button on screen.
