How To Repair A Relationship After Infidelity

In the second of our three-part series on relationships, we spoke to psychotherapist Helen Vaughan of Maynooth Counselling about overcoming infidelity. The reasons for infidelity vary, but one of the most common is couples becoming distant from one another over time and no longer communicating. Relationships where infidelity has occurred can be repaired if both people are still committed to each other and want to make things work. There is a three-stage process for infidelity counselling, which Helen outlines: First phase: Asking questions about when and why the infidelity occurred. The cheater has to be completely honest and apologise, but also understand what they are apologising for. Second phase: Working out what has gone wrong with the relationship and how you can reconnect with each other. Third stage: Moving on and rebuilding trust. This can often take years, but can be achieved. Listen to the interview in full by pressing the play button on this page.
