The Hard Shoulder Highlights

“We are all proud to be Irish, but we don’t need to go out waving a flag...”

Sinn Féin have been warned that they can’t unite the country if they glorify the past. Michael Gallagher, who lost his only son, Aiden, in the Omagh Bomb, was reacting to the video that surfaced of Sinn Féin climate spokesperson David Cullinane shouting IRA slogans while celebrating his election to the 33rd Dáil. Cullinane has since defended the comments, while also apologising if anyone was "offended by it". Gallagher is a spokesperson for the Omagh support and self-help group, and he joined Ivan on Tuesday evening's edition of the Hard Shoulder, and said Sinn Féin should concentrate on the future instead of the past. Eamon McCann is a journalist and social activist from Derry, and he also had his say on the issue.
