"We are not racist, we just want these houses for our local community"

A protest which has halted the construction of 65 social homes in West Dublin is continuing in Mulhuddart, despite the housing charity behind the project saying the project is now at risk of never being completed. The protest began in mid-January and has continued for the past four weeks. The protesters are camped outside this housing development, there are sixty-five houses and departments in total, which comprise of two-, three- and four-bed houses as well as one-, two- and three-bed apartments, 22 of which are described as “age-friendly”. Protesters have a tricolour hanging outside the site with the words ‘House Irish First’ printed on it. And concerns have been raised by other residents in the area about the anti-immigrant tone of the protest. Our reporter Barry Whyte has been to speak to protesters, who say they are not racist and they outlined why they are protesting....
