What You Need To Know About COVID-19 And Pregnancy

Pregnant women are slightly more vulnerable to infection than the general population, due to the immune response being a bit weaker than normal. This means they are at risk for developing more severe symptoms if they happen to contract COVID-19. While pregnant women do not need to cocoon unless they have an underlying health condition, they are advised to practise strict social distancing. Dr Doireann O'Leary, GP at MyCorkGP and health blogger, joined us for our weekly medical consultation to discuss some of the things that are currently known about COVID-19 and pregnancy. She spoke about the importance of routine antenatal care continuing as normal, as well as other issues like development and delivery of the baby and breastfeeding.
