"My children can see people selling drugs & people getting beaten up in the street, pitch battles." Ballymun a Brighter Future

A new report was released this week called 'Ballymun a Brighter Future, A plan to tackle the underlying causes of addiction and crime and to tackle open drug dealing' by former Dublin Mayor Andrew Montague. It says Ballymun has suffered from serious criminality in recent years with open drug dealing and a surge in crack cocaine usage. Many young people are getting drawn into this criminal activity.  Open drug dealing is happening on a scale that is not seen in other parts of the country, according to senior Gardaí. The report calls for 40 - 50 additional Gardaí in the Ballymun station to effectively police the open drug dealing in the crime hot spots. Henry McKean met the Ballymun community and the author of the report Andrew Montague who see a positive future, Henry sent us this report.
