Mitch McConnell And Donald Trump Go To War Over Future Of Republican Party

Mitch McConnell voted to acquit former president Donald Trump on an impeachment charge, despite admitting he was "practically and morally responsible" for January's assault on the US Capitol. Although he majority of the Senate voted to impeach Trump, this still fell short of the two-thirds majority required. McConnell now faces a battle with Trump and his allies over the future of the Republican Party, having said he is open to opposing any "unelectable" candidates in 2022 even if they are strongly supported by Trump.
