Listener email: '...my son was denied entry to creche because he had a runny nose...'

Listener email: '...My husband and I are both in jobs that cannot be done from home. We have a 20 month old and baby no. 2 is due early October. We live in Wicklow, near Bray with no family support nearby...creche fees are going up by €100 per month. The increase was stressful enough but to add insult to injury my son was denied entry to creche on Thursday morning 6th August because he had a runny nose. No temperature, no cough and he was eating as normal. I called the doctor about it and doc won't issue a cert or letter for the creche. She said they will not start issuing certs/letters and that the creche need to trust the judgement of parents regarding their child's health. My son is still at home and we are back to doing half days. He had a runny nose from October to March last year so at this rate he'll never be let back into the creche...'
