Listener email - Expensive staycations: "why do these parasitic landlords think that it is ok to make money out of this situation?"
Listener email: 'Hi Ciara, I am working mother of 4 who has luckily been able to save for a short break in Ireland. We had originally hoped to take a week along the coast in Ireland to chill out with teenagers who finished exams etc. This obviously changed with the pandemic, and we thought we would be unable to leave our house at all this summer. recently our thoughts again were to head to the coast, nothing fancy, just to change scenery. I found the prices for everywhere had skyrocketed in the last month, but managed to find a place within striking distance of coast and only for 3 days, not a week we had hoped for. but we were contented at least to be getting away. 3 nights was 800 euros for a very ordinary place ..... I would not ordinarily even consider this, but my kids have been so good and to be honest I really wanted to feel normal again, so we booked it and started to daydream of a few days away. within a few days, however, we received an email from the self catering company saying our stay was cancelled as it had been listed erroneously. we were very disappointed, but set to looking again. we found the same place on a different site for 1200 for same dates....this is for 3 nights IN IRELAND. honestly, i am disgusted that these people are digging their arm in like this, they are totally taking advantage of the pandemic situation, We are normal Irish people, who just want a change of scenery, why do these parasitic landlords think that it is ok to make money out of this situation? I wonder if any of your listeners have experienced this and should we just be content to think, that the money will be no good to them? i.e. Karma? Ciara hears from listeners
