Roddy Doyle launches Barrytown mural

The image of Colm Meaney's character menacingly clipping the garden shears is possibly the most iconic moment from The Snapper, the film adaptation of Roddy Doyle's book. It's one of the moments captured in a new mural unveiled at Kilbarrack Dart Station. Young men who are members of the Kilbarrack Community Coastal Programme spent 13 hours a day working on the mural. They had wanted to immortalise the Barrytown trilogy -  The Committments, The Snapper and The Van - which were set in the area. A second mural also pays homage to both famous northsiders and members of the community who helped shape Kilbarrack. Roddy Doyle told the gathered crowd he feels "really proud to have me head on the wall over there”. As 'Bimbo's Burgers' is one of the motifs on the mural, Roddy decided to read a passage from The Van. “I tried to find an extract that didn’t contain too much bad language, but it doesn’t exist.
