In 2019, the Oireachtas passed parole reforms intended to stop convicted killers from applying for parole after serving seven years of their sentence and every two years after that, extending the waiting time to 12 years. However, the act has not yet been implemented, meaning that some convicted individuals who should have another five years to wait are still eligible to start the application process. The Irish Sun today launched the "Time to Act" campaign, calling on the government to implement the new Parole Act 2019 immediately. We spoke to Kathleen Chada, whose former husband Sanjeev murdered their two sons, Eoghan and Ruairi, in 2013. Kathleen is worried that the failure to introduce this legislation could mean Sanjeev will be granted parole.
