‘No box, instructions, or details – just a gun in a plastic bag'
You may remember about 7 weeks ago; we reported that guns were being advertised on Facebook to users here in Ireland. Fast forward seven weeks and the gun eventually made its way and arrived at the Newstalk offices in an A5 bubble envelope.
Meta, Facebook’s parent company, told Newstalk that ads of this nature were in breach of its ad policies and took them down at the time. However, others – advertising the sale of the exact same device - have been active on the platform as recently as Monday of this week.
Newstalk’s Technology Correspondent, Jess Kelly, bought the “self-defense” device being advertised and while it looked as though it was a bit of a scam initially, she tells us of the surprising delivery when the firearm arrived on her desk…
