Jason Byrne Chats Leaving Cert Results: "There's People Even My Age Changing Careers Now"

Career guidance at its best For the best part of 30 years, Jason Byrne has been making the people of the world laugh, but comedy wasn't always his dream job. Speaking on Dermot and Dave, Jayo says "I was barely 17 when I left school", which resulted in him being just as confused as anyone as to what he would do in the future. Joking about the "7 A'S" and "clown college", the 47-year-old reveals how his career guidance teacher suggested he should become a mechanic. This would have been fine bar the fact he had "never seen the inside of an engine". Having tried a couple of "regular jobs", Byrne did some "open spots" and things kinda picked up from there, "I was getting more money than a doctor was per hour" he laughs. So maybe missing out on third-level isn't so bad afterall? Jason has since diversified himself in adding 'author' and 'judge' to his titles, proving that one can adapt and evolve over time to help reinvent themselves. The Dubliner is currently performing at his 23rd Edinburgh Fringe Festival and plays the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway in October.
