"I've been mugged six times, the city centre is not safe for rough sleepers now"

A number of homeless people, who sleep rough in the city centre, have told Newstalk they do not feel safe in the city centre no more. It comes as a homeless man was murdered in Kilmainham in the early hours of this morning. It's understood the man in his 40s had his phone stolen on a laneway just off Madison Avenue in Kilmainham at around 1:30am this morning. The man sustained fatal injuries in the attack and died at the scene. A teenager is continuing to be questioned and he is being detained at Kevin Street Garda Station and can be questioned for up to 24 hours. More rough sleepers are sleeping in more suburban areas outside the city centre since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
