Seriously ill people are waiting in Emergency Departments for on average about 13 hours before they are admitted to hospital. Tallaght University Hospital has the longest waits in the country – an average of 24.5 hours before a patient is admitted. Fergal Hickey, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Sligo and President for the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine joined Kieran to discuss his concerns over the numbers going into emergency wards and what can be done to address the issue.
