Do Irish people have a concealed prejudice against minorities?

New research shows – that rather than being a tolerant and open society – many Irish people hide their real feelings about minorities. The study, conducted by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) for the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC), showed a big gap between what people say and what they really feel. They found that in people with third-level education, 27pc don’t support more black people coming to Ireland but conceal it. They also found that Only 53% support more Muslims coming to Ireland, with people making no effort to conceal their attitude about this.
