Were ICTU right to leave the Low Pay Commission?

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has withdrawn from the Low Pay Commission; and there has been talk that this could throw the future of the Government-established body into doubt.   ICTU General Secretary Patricia King said they made the decision after they realised that other members of the Commission were not prepared to propose an increase in the national minimum wage for 2021 beyond 1%. So, were they right to leave the Commission?  And what about the issue of minimum wage?  Should it be raised by more than 1%?  Or at all? To debate, Kieran was joined on Wednesday's edition of the Hard Shoulder by Brendan Ogle, senior officer with UNITE and Neil McDonnell, Chief Executive with ISME. You’re both very welcome to the programme.
