How To Manage Conflict In Relationships

In the first of a three-part series on relationships we were joined by Helen Vaughan, psychotherapist with Maynooth Counselling, to find out how to manage conflict. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a metaphor for four things people do in conflict with their partners that are detrimental to relationships. They are: Criticism Contempt Defensiveness Stonewalling Helen has four tips for resolving conflict: Use "I" statements when raising issues with your partner - say how you feel. Describe the situation without making accusations or pointing the finger. What are your needs to feel better? Take time away from the situation and come back to it when you feel calm.
