"Hitmen See Themselves As Having No Other Options In Life"

A gunman for the Kinahan organised crime group has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the attempted murder of a rival Hutch gang member three years ago. Caolan Smyth, 29, shot 32-year-old James Gately five times in May 2017. Gately was seriously injured but survived. Nicola Tallant, Investigations Editor with the Sunday World and host of the Crime World podcast, joined us to discuss this story. She also spoke about the difficulties in convicting people who order these kinds of crimes to be carried out, and why those who end up as hitmen are often easily drawn into a life of crime.
