Heroes on holiday save little girl
Sean spoke with 21 year old Walter Butler a member of the United States Coast Guard, who is visiting Ireland with his relatives for their grandfathers funeral. He took a trip to Portmarnock beach along with his relatives Eoghan Butler (18), Declan Butler (18) and Alex Thomson (24) when they heard a man screaming.
Walter said they saw a little girl on a “pink floaty” on the water screaming for help as she was swept out to sea by the current and wind.
The four young men raced into the water before Walter decided it was more strategic for him to remain on the beach “to be in my best shape to provide first aid”.
It took over 20 minutes before the boys got to the little girl who was very frightened and safely brought her back to shore. Walter told Sean of how he was meeting up with the family again today to see how she is doing.
