Healthcare workers experiencing severe burnout as they face the 2nd year of Covid-19

Healthcare workers are experiencing severe burnout as they face into the second year of the Covid-19 global pandemic, the Oireachtas Health Committee is hearing today.   Doctors and hospital consultants describe the pressure they are being put under as they battle to save the lives of people infected by the virus.   An Irish Midwives and Nurses Organisation survey shows that 82%  felt the “experience of Covid-19 had a negative impact on their mental health” and, nine out of 10 nurses and midwives described feeling “mentally exhausted” when off-duty.  Dr Aoife Mullally, consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology at Coombe hospital joined Andrea along with many callers on Lunchtime Live today.
