Have Summer Holidays Abroad Just Moved One Step Closer?

The European Commission has backed the creation of a 'digital green certificate' which would allow EU citizens to travel to other member states without the need to quarantine on arrival. It will be valid in all EU member states and offer proof that a person has either been vaccinated against COVID-19, received a negative test result or recovered from the virus. The decision has been welcomed by the travel industry in Ireland, but Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said the country will take a "cautious" approach. Could holidays abroad this summer be an option after all? We spoke to Eoghan O'Mara Walsh, chief executive of the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, and Cathal Crowe, TD and Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Tourism & Aviation.
