Government Urged To Cancel Flights So People Can Be Refunded
It was confirmed last week that travel restrictions between Ireland and some other countries would be lifted on 9 July, with a so-called "green list" of safe countries to be published in coordination with the EU.
For people travelling to these countries, the 14-day quarantine will not apply.
The announcement has caused considerable confusion, with public health officials urging holidaymakers not to travel abroad and to think about the risks involved.
Pat Dawson, Chief Executive of the Irish Travel Agents Association, has called for clarity on the situation, suggesting that the government should cancel flights so that people can get their money back.
He was joined on The Last Word by Dr Tomás Ryan, Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Immunology at Trinity College Dublin, to discuss the issue further.
