#Gaeilge4All Campaign Aims To Improve The Way Irish Is Taught

A new campaign has been launched which aims to make the Irish language more relevant and interesting for students. The idea behind the #Gaeilge4All campaign is to "strengthen and defend the Irish language in the education system" to ensure that "every student can have a positive, meaningful and fulfilling Irish language learning experience from pre-school to third level". We were joined by Julian de Spáinn, General Secretary of Conradh na Gaeilge, who is a spokesman for the campaign. He says they are seeking a "comprehensive policy for the teaching of Irish" which would involve "joined-up thinking", so that what is learned at each step of the education system will inform what is learned at the next, from pre-school through to third level. There would also be emphasis on a skills-based system and the idea of lifelong learning. Julian hopes the Minister of Education will commit to introducing this policy, which he says will "give students a learning experience that would be relative to their ability."
