Enough is Enough: 'I hired a security firm to get him out'

All this week Newstalk we're saying Enough is Enough with the Government of Ireland's No Excuses campaign. Reporter Aideen Finnegan has spoken to three brave people who've suffered in intimate relationships. Some of these stories may be distressing for some listeners. Priscilla Grainger is a survivor of an abusive relationship. She and her daughter, Ainie, set up the group Stop Domestic Violence in Ireland and they now help other women and men. Their story has been the subject of a play that ran at the Dublin Fringe Festival last month called Some Names Have Been Changed. John* says the myth that men can't be victims of abuse meant it took him a long time to even realise that it was happening to him. Not only that, but when he actually sought help, the system didn’t see him as a victim either. Shaneda Daly is a survivor of child sexual abuse at the hands of her father. He went to jail in 2011 and since then Shaneda supports hundreds of others through the group she co-founded: “Survivors Side by Side’. If you've been affected by any of the above, there are support services available. One in Four supports adult survivors of child sexual abuse. AnyMan supports male victims of abuse. Women's Aid also's help and advice to women who have, or are, being abused by partners or former partners. The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre offers support to survivors of sexual violence. They can also help put you in touch with your local Rape Crisis Centre.
