Employers Group Says Calls For Paid Sick Leave During COVID-19 Are "Impractical" For Small Businesses

The Dáil is due to debate the Sick Leave and Parental Leave (Covid-19) Bill 2020, which seeks to make sick pay a legal right. The bill would entitle employees to six weeks' sick pay at the same rate of annual leave, and would give parents the right to paid leave if their child has to stay home from school due to COVID-19. Marie Sherlock, Labour Party Senator and Employment Affairs spokesperson, joined us to explain why her party is in support of the issue. We were also joined by John Barry, National Council Member of ISME and Managing Director of MSS HR, who feels the bill is impractical.
