Emily in Paris - Why do we love bad TV?

Season four of Emily in Paris was released on Netflix last week. Reviews for the show, which follows the exploits of an American marketing executive in Paris, have not been kind. Yet, despite this, the series is still wildly popular. Why are shows like this, which are so definitively critically panned, such a hit with audiences?
