Dog rescues across Ireland are under unprecedented pressure  as they cope with a record 70% increase in dogs being surrendered. These pets which people got during the pandemic, have been given up. And volunteers at rescues across the country are now calling on more people to foster dogs, Barry Whyte reports. As well as this, irresponsible breeding practices are also an ongoing issue, leading to lots of dogs having complicated genetic defects. This in turn is leading to massive vet bills for the rescue services which are hugely draining on already scarce resources.
