Does Earth Day Achieve Anything Or Is It A Mere Gimmick?

Today is Earth Day, an event which began 51 years ago, in 1970. Celebrated on 22 April each year, Earth Day is designed to drive action on the environment and climate crisis around the world. This year's theme is "Restore Earth", which is supported by three pillars – restoration, mitigation and adaptation. But does it achieve anything, or is it a mere gimmick? John Gibbons joined us for our weekly environment slot to discuss this and the World Meteorological Organization's warning that "we are on the verge of the abyss".
