"COVID-19 Is Sending Women Back To The 1950s"

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, many women have been "reduced to a 1950s gender stereotype", according to Irish Examiner columnist Alison O'Connor. She says that the lives of women have been disproportionately affected, from juggling work, childcare and homeschooling to worldwide increases in domestic abuse. Network Ireland has today published the details of a survey of its members about the effects of the lockdown. Two-thirds of women feel the pandemic has slowed Ireland's progress towards gender equality, with 73% of these women saying this is most visible in the area of childcare and family life and 23% saying it relates to employment. Alison O'Connor and Dr Aisling O'Neill, national president of Network Ireland, joined us to discuss this further. [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/03/08174424/LW-Women.mp3"][/audio]
