The pandemic has had a devastating impact on our cities, with new data provided by Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick city councils showing a big decline in footfall. At the height of the lockdown Limerick experienced a 90% drop in pedestrian numbers, while the figures stood at 88% for Galway, 83% for Dublin and 76% for Cork. Is COVID-19 causing the death of our cities, and what can be done about it? To discuss this we were joined by Frank McDonald, a Temple Bar resident and author of The Destruction of Dublin, Dee Ryan, CEO of Limerick Chamber, and Richard Guiney, CEO of Dublin Town.
