Cost Of Food And Drink In Ireland Is 20% Higher Than EU Average

Irish people are paying much more for food and drink than our EU counterparts, according to statistics from Eurostat. The findings show that the cost of a basket of groceries is 20% higher than the EU average. This includes the following products: Bread and cereals - 19% higher Milk, eggs and cheese - 21% higher Meat - 5% higher Whiskey, wine and beer - 77% higher Tobacco - 101% higher Why are we paying so much? We were joined by Charlie Weston, Personal Finance Editor with the Irish Independent, and Patricia Callan of the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland and Director of the Alcohol Beverage Federation of Ireland, to discuss this.
