"It's a confrontation of the independence of the Data Protection Commissioner"

The Government is to challenge an order that ruled the Public Services Card has no legal basis. The Data Protection Commissioner ordered agencies delete the data on citizens which was not relevant to welfare services. Over 3 million citizens have been issued the card, and Helen Dixon was critical about how people's information was being held onto indefinitely. Minister Regina Doherty is to bring her decision to cabinet this evening. Liam Herrick from the Irish Council of Civil Liberties spoke to Ivan about his concerns over the card, and what such a case would do to the relationship between the State and the Data Protection Commissioner's Office
