CervicalCheck Scandal Continues As IT Glitch Prevents 800 Women From Receiving Results

The CervicalCheck scandal is continuing as it has been revealed that 800 women failed to receive their smear test results due to an IT glitch. It came to light after one woman raised concerns about a delay in getting her test results. The HSE has apologised, saying that CervicalCheck was aware of the issue in February. Speaking on The Last Word, patient advocate Stephen Teap said: "I don't plan on going anywhere until all of these issues are resolved and these recommendations are in place, and I will continue to battle on when these mistakes are made." He added that he has already contacted the Minister for Health to find out exactly when the Department of Health were made aware of the issue, and also "to ensure we are included in every step of this, because what just happened here is completely unacceptable." Fianna Fáil health spokesperson Stephen Donnelly said a change in attitude is needed from government and from the HSE. "The patient advocates always seem to be the last to hear. Their names are invoked regularly by government as proof that this is a listening government, but the facts do not bear that out."
