How You Can Volunteer To Support Mental Health Services

The last few months have been incredibly tough for everyone but for those who have difficulty with their mental health, this current crisis is putting even more pressure on them. Mental health charity, Aware, have launched an appeal to recruit 200 additional volunteers to support their vital services across Ireland. Since the beginning of the pandemic, they have seen an increase in demand for their services both from those who can usually manage their mental health very well but are struggling and from those who have never experienced anxiety or low mood before. Factors like changes to the way we live, job losses, isolation and health concerns have taken their toll on people all around Ireland, and Aware want to be there to offer a supportive ear. They are appealing to those aged 25 and older who are empathetic, compassionate and who possess good communication skills to make contact with them to consider volunteering. You will be given full training and ongoing support. Brid O'Meara from Aware spoke to Dermot and Dave this morning about what you can expect and how you can get involved. If you need to contact Aware yourself either for support or to volunteer, check their website.
