Brexit - A Look Back At The 20 Most Influential Moments Of The Last 20 Years.
Newstalk is continuing our look back at the 20 most influential moments of the last 20 years.
Today we look at The United Kingdom's ground-breaking decision to pull away from the EU in a move most commonly classified as ‘Brexit’.
On 23 June 2016, the UK held a referendum on its membership of the EU. The question facing voters was: ‘Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?’. With an incredibly tight margin, 51.89% of voters voted to leave the EU. The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020, with its official transition period ending on the 31st of December this year.
Brexit has had a massive impact on many people across the EU, affecting trade, laws/ rules, even acting as a divider within families.
