Average speed zone cameras are being installed in Ireland for the first time

Average speed zone cameras, similar to those used in the Port tunnel are being installed on a stretch of motorway in Ireland for the first time.   Installation began on the M7 motorway in Co Tipperary yesterday between Junction 26 - Nenagh (West) and Junction 27 - Birdhill, covering both directions.   The system notes the time a vehicle passes one point and then another point further along the same route and by working out the average speed it is able to determine whether vehicles are driving too fast.    It is thought this system might help to catch motorists who break the speed limit but avoid getting caught by slowing down as they pass speed cameras.   Andrea hears from listeners.
